Tournament favourites Rachel Homan and Kerri Einarson started their campaigns with commanding victories on Saturday in the opening draw of the 2025 Montana’s Canadian Curling Trials in Halifax.
Ottawa’s Homan, the reigning two-time Canadian and world champion, cruised to a convincing 16-5 win over Kate Cameron of St. Adolphe, Manitoba. After scoring three in the third end, Homan’s team stole four more in the fourth, building an insurmountable lead early in the game.
Homan credited their strong performance to effective preparation and quick adaptation to the ice conditions. She noted that her team executed precise shots early, allowing them to control the pace of the match.
Meanwhile, Kerri Einarson of Gimli, Manitoba, secured a 12-5 victory over Halifax favourite Christina Black. Einarson’s squad applied heavy pressure from the start, stealing two points in the first end and four more in the second to take early control.
Einarson said facing Black early helped neutralize the home crowd advantage and praised the competitive rivalry between the teams.

The opening men’s draw was scheduled to take place later on Saturday.
The winners of both the men’s and women’s tournaments will go on to represent Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina, Italy.
